Why dragon fruit

For juice bars & smoothie operators.

Dragon fruit is the single best color-upgrade a juice bar can make. Add 1–2 oz of red pitaya to any smoothie and it becomes Instagram-ready pink. No dye, no artificial anything, just the natural betacyanin in the fruit. That visual alone justifies a premium on the menu.

But it's also a legitimate flavor upgrade. Dragon fruit pairs cleanly with strawberry, banana, coconut, and mango without dominating the base. It reads as 'tropical' without a heavy fruit profile. For health-forward menus, the antioxidant and fiber content is a real nutritional story.

1 oz per 16-oz drink is the standard dose. A 10 kg case gives you ~350 of those. Smoothies, pink milk drinks, and signature bowls all work from the same inventory.

Applications

Four ways operators use it.

The common builds we see from juice bars & smoothie operators.

01

Signature pink smoothies

Strawberry + banana + pitaya + almond milk = a top-seller at most juice bars. The color moves off the menu board faster than the description does.

02

Pink milk drinks

Blend pitaya with oat or almond milk for a dairy-free 'pink latte' style drink. Works hot (gentle warming) or cold.

03

Wellness shots & tonics

2 oz pitaya + 1 oz lime + ginger = an antioxidant shot. Sell at premium pricing ($6–$8 for a 3-oz shot).

04

Signature bowls

Same workflow as smoothie bowl operators but offered as a single feature item rather than a category. Adds one 'bowl' SKU to a juice menu.

Common questions

About dragon fruit for this use.

Will 1 oz really color a whole smoothie?+

Yes. Dragon fruit pigment is incredibly strong. Red pitaya has one of the highest betacyanin concentrations of any commercial fruit. 1 oz in a 16-oz smoothie turns it magenta throughout.

What's the flavor contribution at that small portion?+

Subtle. A mild tropical sweetness without dominating. If you want dragon fruit to be the taste lead, push to 3–4 oz per drink.

Can it replace açai?+

For color. Yes, and with a brighter pink vs açai's purple. For flavor. No, açai is richer and more distinct. Many operators run both as separate menu items.

Does it stain equipment?+

The pigment is strong but water-soluble. Rinse blenders with cold water immediately after use and it won't stain. Don't let it sit on silicone for extended periods.
